Bengaluru has implemented a two-day ban on alcohol sales in specific areas, effective from 6 AM on March 24 until 10 PM on March 25. This restriction, which prohibits the buying and selling of alcohol, is in place due to scheduled protests organized by various groups. The Karnataka Reservation Protection Federation hosted a rally at Freedom Park on March 24, and the Karnataka State Right-Handed Castes Federation is scheduled to conduct a rally today, March 25, leading to concerns about public order and safety.
Keeping this in mind, the Bengaluru Police Commissioner, Seemanth Kumar Singh, announced a temporary ban on alcohol, which began on Wednesday, March 24, and will last until Thursday night, March 25.
This restriction applies to all bars, restaurants that serve liquor, and liquor shops in eight areas of Bengaluru. The following are the names of the eight areas under the alcohol ban due to ongoing protest rallies:

The police officials who announced the ban stated that it is a temporary measure aimed at maintaining law and order during the protests. There are concerns that participants who are under the influence of alcohol might engage in unlawful activities, potentially disrupting public peace. Therefore, the ban is intended to prevent such unfortunate incidents.
Officials have also indicated that security will be increased in sensitive areas, especially at the protest sites. Residents are urged to cooperate with the authorities during the ban period. The goal is to ensure that the protests proceed smoothly, without causing harm to the general public or damaging public property.

The city of Bengaluru has already witnessed such temporary alcohol bans in the past. The recent ban on alcohol sales was imposed in many parts of the city ahead of an annual festival. This festival was the annual Huskur Madduramma Jatra and Dharmaraya Swamy Jatra Mahotsava.
From March 14 to March 15, 2026, all the liquor shops and bars in specific areas were closed. There were areas that came under the Parappana Agrahara and Hebbagodi police stations. However, star hotels and clubs were still allowed to serve alcohol. The reason behind this ban was public safety, security, and maintaining law and order in the city.
Eight areas in Bengaluru will be witnessing an alcohol ban till 10 PM on March 25. The ban is imposed because of protest rallies by the Karnataka Reservation Protection Federation and the Karnataka State Right-Handed Castes Federation.
