Bored Of Teen Patti? Try These 2 Fun Diwali Party Games With Your Friends

Diwali house parties generally mean good food, good music, good drink and a bit of Teen Patti. Teen Patti has become the game of choice at the festive house parties but playing the same game every year can get a bit stale. What if you could swap the cards for secret missions, hidden identities and a dash of friendly competition?

If you're having a Diwali party and you're looking for something a bit different then you might want to try these two Diwali drinking games. Diwali Do or Drink and Mithai Mafia are both excellent and will turn a fairly normal house party into a proper evening of entertainment.

What Is Diwali Do Or Drink?

Diwali Do or Drink is a party game in which each person gets a secret task to do and they have to do it without anyone noticing. The whole point is to carry out the task in a way that no-one suspects what you're up to while the rest of the group are trying to work out what everyone else is doing.

The tasks can be as daft and utterly unforeseeable as you like. One person might be asked to randomly sing the National Anthem, another to fish for compliments and a third to sneak into a group selfie. The fun is in watching people behave suspiciously whilst maintaining the illusion that absolutely nothing is amiss.

How To Play Diwali Do Or Drink?

Start by writing up various challenges on small bits of paper and then fold them into chits. Each player gets a chit and keeps their individual task a secret. Once all the players have their challenge they can go and do their task at any time during the party.

The rules are simple really. If you're caught doing your secret bit you take a shot. If you complete the challenge without anyone ever working it out then you win. The trick is of course to make your actions appear absolutely normal even though you're doing something rather odd. For a non-alcoholic version you could simply swap the shots out for a funny dare or something of that nature.

What Is Mithai Mafia?

Mithai Mafia is a Mafia party game with a Diwali twist. Rather than being purely a conversation/accusation game, it involves players secretly hiding mithai (sweets) around the house, and the other players then trying to work out who has hidden them.

Each player gets a secret role via chits. Two of the players are the Mithai Mafia and all the rest are Mithai Hunters. The Mafia have to go and hide the mithai around the house in secret. The Hunters are then on the look out for the mithai, looking for any suspicious clues and trying to work out who the Mafia are.

How To Play Mithai Mafia?

Start by having chits ready, marking two of them as Mithai Mafia and the rest as Mithai Hunters. Once everyone has their role, the Mafia get to go hide the sweets around the house (in a bid to avoid detection). The Hunters then search for the mithai and need to be on the lookout for anyone acting a bit odd.

After each round the group vote to eliminate one suspect. Before the identity of the person to be eliminated is revealed they all take a shot. The game continues as the players go about looking for clues, making accusations and trying to work out who the Mafia are. The last people left win. You can of course also substitute the drinking penalty for a non alcoholic option so that all can take part.

Tips For Hosting These Diwali Party Games

Diwali party games

If you're hosting a diwali party, both games require very little setup, making them perfect for a house party when you want something fun to do without the trouble of setting up a complicated game. For Diwali Do or Drink you just need to have enough secret challenges ready for everyone and the challenges should be harmless, doable and suitable for the party. You could also set a time limit to keep things going.

For Mithai Mafia, use the wrapped sweets and pick safe hiding places that are easy to get to. Don't place the food anywhere near the candles, diyas or decorations. As both of the games involve a drink penalty, make them optional and allow people to opt for non-alcoholic drinks or other fun alternatives. The whole point is to have a good time playing the games, not to force anyone to drink.

Summing Up

Teen Patti might be the Diwali game of choice but it doesn't have to be the only game at your house party. Diwali Do or Drink brings in the element of surprise with secret challenges and all sorts of fun little twists. Mithai Mafia is a mix of hidden roles, mithai and a bit of detective work.

Whether your guests are into silly tasks or solving a mystery, these two Diwali party games are a great way to get the whole party involved. All you really need are a few chits, some mithai and a group of friends who are ready for a bit of festive competition.
