Ask any craft beer lover in India to name a brewery they have to visit at least once, and chances are Toit will be one of the first names that comes up. While Mumbai's Toit has remained shut for quite some time, the original Pune outpost continues to attract beer enthusiasts from across the country. Naturally, we couldn't ignore the hype forever.
So, we did what any self-respecting beer lovers would do. We drove all the way from Mumbai to Pune for an honest review. That's the level of dedication behind Drink and Dish, Unsobered's series where we visit some of India's most talked-about bars, breweries, and restaurants to find out if they're actually worth your time and money. After one afternoon at Toit Pune, we finally understood why so many people swear by it.

The first thing that stood out was the sheer size of the place. The brewery is spacious, lively, and manages to feel busy without ever feeling cramped. Unlike many breweries that rely heavily on flashy decor, Toit keeps things warm and inviting with plenty of wood, open spaces, and an atmosphere that encourages you to settle in for a long session.
One detail immediately caught our attention. Instead of standard metal beer taps, Toit Pune serves its beers through beautiful wooden taps, a tradition that dates back to English pubs. Even today, many old and new bars across the English countryside continue using similar wooden tap handles, making it a subtle nod to classic pub culture. It's a small touch, but one that adds character to the entire experience.

Before the beers even arrived, we learned something we didn't know. The name Toit is actually a playful twist on the South Indian slang word "tight," which is commonly used to describe someone who's had a few drinks. It's the kind of fun branding that perfectly suits the brewery's personality. Serious about beer, but never too serious about itself.

We decided to trust Toit's reputation completely and ordered without overthinking it. On the beer front, we went with the Nitro Stout and the Tint-In Wit, two beers that couldn't be more different from each other. To go with the drinks, we ordered the Beer Battered Prawns, partly because you can't visit one of India's most famous breweries without trying something cooked with beer. As it turned out, that decision was one of the smartest ones we made all afternoon.

One of us was trying a stout for the very first time, and the Nitro Stout turned out to be the perfect introduction. The beer was creamy, smooth, and surprisingly approachable. If we had to describe it in the simplest way possible, it felt like someone had melted the iconic Coffee Bite toffees into a well-balanced stout. Rich coffee notes, roasted malt, and a silky texture made it incredibly easy to drink.
The Tint-In Wit offered the complete opposite experience. Light, crisp, refreshing, and packed with citrusy notes, it felt like the ideal beer for a relaxed afternoon. If the Nitro Stout is something you'd slowly sip through the evening, the Tint-In Wit is the beer you'd happily order again while catching up with friends on a sunny weekend.

As good as the beers were, the biggest surprise of the afternoon turned out to be the food. The Beer Battered Prawns arrived golden, crispy, and perfectly cooked without feeling greasy. After just a couple of bites, we unanimously agreed that these might be among the best beer snacks we've had in a long time. The batter was light enough to let the sweetness of the prawns shine through while adding just the right amount of crunch. If you're heading to Toit and wondering what to order alongside your beer, this is an easy recommendation.
Considering Toit's reputation, we were honestly expecting the bill to be much higher. For two beers and the Beer Battered Prawns, our total came to INR 965. The only regret? We ordered the smaller glasses. By the time we finished, we couldn't help but wonder how much better the experience would've been if we'd simply gone for the larger pours. Maybe next time.

Toit Pune isn't just another microbrewery riding on its reputation. From the spacious interiors and traditional wooden beer taps to the excellent craft beer and surprisingly memorable food, it delivers an experience that feels genuinely worth the drive. The Nitro Stout and Tint-In Wit both impressed in completely different ways, while the Beer Battered Prawns easily earned a spot among our favorite brewery snacks.
Would we drive from Mumbai to Pune again just for Toit? Honestly, yes. In fact, after spending an afternoon here, we couldn't help but joke that Toit is good enough to make you consider moving to Pune.
