Oaksmith Red is a blend of imported Scotch malt whisky and American bourbon whiskey, brought together with Japanese expertise. As per the Suntory Global Spirits website, it is a blend of the whisky traditions of Scotland and the US, with a significant element of Japanese craftsmanship in the creation of the final product.
The whisky is marketed as an international blend rather than a Japanese whisky. It's the third expression in Oaksmith's Indian range, another example of Suntory's strategy of blending different whisky making traditions.
Oaksmith Red is a deep amber with golden highlights. The nose is vanilla, honeyed caramel and toasted oak with a touch of orchard fruit. On the palate you've got bourbon led vanilla and toffee with a touch of soft malt and gentle spice. The finish is smooth and long with warm oak sweetness. Suntory recommends drinking it neat, on the rocks or with a little water.
